Banished Knight + Spiky Killbot mini-bossesBanished Knight forced encounter at the Broken Wall (Launcher AOE + DEF Down) + Spiky Killbot bomb-required at the Bomb Shop (spike-armor contact reflect)
Per Miraheze's Snowy Thicket page, the area has two mini-bosses: Banished Knight and Spiky Killbot. The Banished Knight sits at the Broken Wall - per Miraheze, 'The Broken Wall is the area where the player fights the Banished Knight, who says that he has been exiled due to failing the king too many times, and hopes to regain his trust by defeating the player in combat. He doesn't say anything after his defeat, and the player(s) can freely pass the broken wall.' The Banished Knight is the canonical Ch1 mid-boss with Launcher AOE + DEF Down mechanic (per the Banished Knight boss page), and the Pit Floor 16 rematch. The Spiky Killbot sits at the Bomb Shop - per Miraheze, 'There exists a shop run by the Annihilator who only sells bombs for 15 TIX. Conveniently, the Spiky Killbot is right next to the bomb shop, in which the player can defeat it by using the bombs, or alternatively the Sword Toss card, damage-dealing items, etc. The Spiky Killbot boss is meant to teach the player the use of offensive items.' The Spiky Killbot is the canonical Ch1 bomb-required encounter with spike-armor contact reflect mechanic (per the Spiky Killbot boss page), and the Pit Floor 18 rematch. Plan the build so the Banished Knight + Spiky Killbot are both cleared before the Blackrock Castle approach - the Banished Knight is a forced encounter at the Broken Wall, and the Spiky Killbot is taught as the canonical 'use offensive items' tutorial with the Annihilator Bomb Shop right next door.
Bomb Shop + Spiky Killbot mechanicAnnihilator sells bombs at 15 TIX each, Spiky Killbot teaches the offensive-items mechanic with bombs as the canonical counter
Per Miraheze's Bomb Shop section, 'There exists a shop run by the Annihilator who only sells bombs for 15 TIX. Conveniently, the Spiky Killbot is right next to the bomb shop, in which the player can defeat it by using the bombs, or alternatively the Sword Toss card, damage-dealing items, etc. The Spiky Killbot boss is meant to teach the player the use of offensive items.' The Bomb Shop + Spiky Killbot cluster is the canonical Chapter 1 offensive-items tutorial - the Annihilator's 15 TIX per bomb is the Mirahehe-documented price, and the Spiky Killbot is the canonical encounter that teaches the player to use offensive items rather than just card-only damage. The spike-armor contact reflect is the Spiky Killbot's main mechanic - per the Spiky Killbot boss page, the boss reflects melee contact damage, so the bombs + Sword Toss card + ranged damage items are the canonical counter. Plan the build so the Bomb Shop is the visit BEFORE the Spiky Killbot - 15 TIX per bomb is affordable on the pre-Spiky-Killbot budget, and the bombs are the only Mirahehe-documented Ch1 offensive-items counter for the spike-armor reflect mechanic.
Collapsed Cave + Dynamite pickupAccountant Jim under rubble, Dynamite card for Blackrock Castle brick barricade, ski-lift east fast-travel back to diverging paths
Per Miraheze's Collapsed Cave section, 'The Collapsed Cave is where the Dynamite and Accountant Jim resides, in which Jim is found stuck under rubble caused by the cave's collapse. After obtaining the dynamite card, Tutorial Terry shows up to teach the player how to switch their actions and be able to use the dynamite. The player can either use the dynamite to explode the rubble and free Jim or leave him to die. At the previous screen, there is a ski lift toward the east that takes the player to the staircase that leads the player to the entrance of the Blackrock Castle dungeon, that can now be accessed using the dynamite to blow up the brick barricade.' The Collapsed Cave is the Ch1 mid-zone's moral-choice + Blackrock Castle gate mechanic - the player finds Jim under rubble, picks up the Dynamite card (with Tutorial Terry teaching the action-switch mechanic), and then chooses to free Jim (Rock and a Hard Place badge) or leave him to die (Heartless badge). The ski-lift east fast-travel is the canonical Blackrock Castle entry shortcut - after picking up Dynamite, the ski-lift takes the player back to the diverging paths, then the east path leads to the Blackrock Castle dungeon via Dynamite on the brick barricade. Plan the build so the Collapsed Cave visit is the pre-Blackrock-Castle step - the Dynamite card is required for the Blackrock Castle entry, and the Tutorial Terry action-switch teaching is the canonical item-card tutorial.
Build shellCh1 mid-zone folder: Adventurer ID -> Toll Booth Officer -> Banished Knight -> Spiky Killbot (bombs) -> Collapsed Cave + Dynamite + Jim choice -> ski-lift -> Blackrock Castle dungeon
The reliable Snowy Thicket shell is the Chapter 1 mid-zone folder - not a single boss fight, but the canonical Adventurer ID -> Toll Booth Officer -> Banished Knight + Spiky Killbot -> Collapsed Cave + Dynamite + Jim choice -> ski-lift -> Blackrock Castle dungeon path. The shell is: Adventurer ID pickup from Mayor Monty in Roadtown (the only Mirahehe-documented Ch1 unlock item), Toll Booth Officer dialogue (the only Mirahehe-documented Ch1 zone entry), one bridge traversal into the Snowy Thicket (the only Mirahehe-documented Ch1 mid-zone entry), Banished Knight forced encounter at the Broken Wall (the only Mirahehe-documented Ch1 mid-boss with Launcher AOE + DEF Down + Pit Floor 16 rematch), Spiky Killbot bomb-required encounter at the Bomb Shop (15 TIX per bomb from the Annihilator, the only Mirahehe-documented Ch1 offensive-items tutorial with Pit Floor 18 rematch), Collapsed Cave visit with the Dynamite card pickup (the only Mirahehe-documented Blackrock Castle entry item, taught by Tutorial Terry's action-switch mechanic), Rock and a Hard Place or Heartless badge choice (the only Mirahehe-documented Ch1 moral-choice moment, gated by the Jim rescue decision), and ski-lift east fast-travel to the diverging paths (the only Mirahehe-documented Blackrock Castle dungeon entry shortcut). The Snowy Thicket is the canonical Chapter 1 finale build, and the shell is the path from Adventurer ID to the Blackrock Castle dungeon entry. Use the build maker to confirm BP, SP, and the bomb counter-shell for the Spiky Killbot before leaving the Bomb Shop.
