Cruel King opens every cycle with Scepter Strike — a scepter swing that hits the leftmost target and applies Frozen. After a Call for Help (skipped on solo) he always casts Refreshing Heal, which heals his team and applies DEF Up for three turns. The only way to break the loop is to burst the heal turn with shield-break or burst-damage before DEF Up stacks up.
AOE Freeze punishes sloppy positioning
Cruel King points the scepter to conjure an icy mist that implodes after a short delay, inflicting Combat 5 plus Frozen 1 on every party member. The tell is the scepter point-up animation — once you see it, swap to defense or eat a Hot Cocoa to drop the Frozen stack before the next swing.
His Defense stat was removed
In the Demo 5 patch, Cruel King's Defense stat is fully removed, so raw damage cards (rather than def-pierce) are usable. This is a meaningful change from the original Demo 1 version, where you had to commit a def-pierce slot. Bring a burst finisher instead and save the def-pierce slot for Cruel King DX.
