A boss attempt usually fails faster when every card solves the same job. Cover recovery, protection, damage, and setup before you decide the deck is ready.
Start this Captain Trotter prep by checking survival, SP room, damage plan, and whether your cards fit the fight before spending more attempts.

Block Tales boss advice can change after updates or fresh player runs. If a guide conflicts with the live fight, trust what happens in-game and adjust the build.
Open the build maker when you know what keeps ending the run. A usable plan shows BP left, SP pressure, survival coverage, and cards to try next.
Captain Trotter is the tritagonist-turned-main antagonist of Chapter 4. He is the Demo 4 boss on Mount Red Sun and reappears on Floor 49–50 of the Pit. His fall into lava — pushed by Calypso to protect the player — is what awakens The Ancients as the prophesied final guardian.
The Captain Trotter fight is gated by reaching Mount Red Sun and surviving the Firebrand unlock sequence. Treat the Firebrand check as part of the build: if you cannot break his shield phase, you are not ready for the Captain's rematch floors in the Pit.
On Floor 49 and Floor 50 of the Pit, Captain Trotter returns with a tighter move set and a heal-on-damage passive. Stack shield-break and burst-damage cards rather than slow DOTs, and save one self-heal card for the second wind he gets near 30% HP.
A typical successful Captain Trotter run uses a shield-break card (to drop his Phase 1 shield), a burst-damage carry (so the Phase 2 transition is short), and one self-heal card (for the Floor 49 second wind). Use the build maker to confirm SP room before entering Mount Red Sun.
