How to Beat Fear & Greed in Block Tales
The Chapter 3 Dream World duo. Greed floods the arena with coins; Fear haunts you with shadow clones. Two bosses, one page, one optimal fight order.
๐ฐ Greed (220 HP)
A fallen merchant turned into a gold-obsessed boss. Fills the arena with explosive coins and uses gold-based attacks. His greed is his strength and weakness.
๐ Fear (200 HP)
A spectral entity that haunts players with illusionary attacks. Its Leer debuff stacks dangerously, and Phase 2 brings shadow clones that divide your attention.
Arena Control Is the Whole Fight โ Coins for Greed, Clones for Fear
Greed's coins are the real boss. The merchant is just the delivery mechanism โ the actual damage source is the coin arena. Greed throws coins on his Summon Coins turn, and they detonate on the next turn for 8-12 AoE damage. The 1-turn warning is the only thing that makes this survivable: Fireball on the coin-summon turn clears the arena in one cast, and Inferno clears it as a backup. If you fail to clear, you take the detonation AND lose your positioning for the follow-up Coin Toss.
Fear's clones are a 2-turn death sentence. The Clone Split attack (Phase 2 only) summons 2 shadow clones with 40 HP each. If the clones are NOT killed within 2 turns, they resurrect Fear to full HP โ the entire Phase 2 progress is wiped. This is the single most-punishing mechanic in Chapter 3 because the 2-turn window is shorter than most players expect. Reddit r/blocktales community reading: the clone HP is intentionally low (40 each, 80 total) to make a single AoE clear viable, but you have to commit the AoE the same turn the clones appear.
Lightning is a trap on Greed. Coins conduct electricity โ a Lightning card against a Greed who has coins on the field reflects the damage back to you. This is one of the most-counter-intuitive resistances in Block Tales (Greed is weak to Fire but resists Lightning because of the coin arena interaction). The Reddit r/blocktales thread "1t4pbou โ the bosses from the dream world in block tales" notes this is also a thematic joke โ Greed's gold conducts, but gold doesn't burn.
Leer is the debuff you don't see. Fear's Leer debuff is a 0-damage status attack that reduces your defense by 20% per stack. Three stacks (-60% defense) turns a 14-damage Shadow Strike into a 35-damage hit. New players consistently misread the damage source โ they think Shadow Strike is hitting harder in Phase 2, when it's actually the Leer stacks from Phase 1. Purifying Light is the only card that strips all stacks in one cast.
Greed โ Weaknesses
- โ Fire attacks (ignite coins)
- โ Rapid multi-hit combos
- โ Disrupt coin summoning early
Fear โ Weaknesses
- โ Light element (2x damage)
- โ Area-of-effect cards
- โ Purifying Light
Greed โ Resistances
- โ Lightning (coins conduct electricity โ hurts you more)
- โ Steal effects (he has infinite gold)
Fear โ Resistances
- โ Dark attacks
- โ Fear effects (ironic)
Recommended Cards (covers both fights)
Reddit r/blocktales budget pick:drop Inferno and Focus, bring a second Fireball + Purifying Light. The Fireball double-cast handles Greed's coin arena in 2 turns (one per summon cycle) and contributes chip damage to Fear. Purifying Light strips the Leer debuff stacks in one cast, which is more BP-efficient than trying to heal through Shadow Strike + Leer combo damage. Total BP target: 28-30.

Solo Strategy โ Greed First, Then Fear
Greed: Greed fills the arena with coins that explode on the next turn โ destroy them quickly with Fireball before they detonate. He becomes vulnerable after using Golden Rampage (high damage AoE). Attack during the recovery frames. Phase 2 adds Coin Rain โ clear coins every turn.
Fear: Fear uses Leer to reduce your defense by 20% per stack โ cleanse it immediately with Heal Plus. Phase 2 brings shadow clones that must be killed within 2 turns or they resurrect Fear. AoE cards are essential. The Clone Split attack is your priority target.
Phase-by-Phase Breakdown
Greed Phase 1 โ Coin Toss + Golden Rampage (220 โ 110 HP)
Greed opens with Coin Toss (8 damage, parryable) and Summon Coins. The first turn is the most important turn of the entire fight โ cast Fireball on the same turn Greed uses Summon Coins. If you clear the coins, Golden Rampage (20 damage AoE) becomes a one-time hit that you can Shield Bash through. If you fail to clear, the coins detonate AND Golden Rampage hits the same turn, which is 30+ damage and a likely wipe for sub-50 HP players.
Greed Phase 2 โ Coin Rain Spam (110 โ 0 HP)
Below 50% HP, Greed adds Coin Rain (10 damage per turn, every turn). This is the wall that kills under-prepared players โ the Coin Rain tick is unparryable and stacks with any coins Greed throws that you fail to clear. Budget strategy: rapid-fire Fireball on every coin-summon turn. Aggressive strategy: ignore the coins, push Greed below 30% HP in 3 turns, the Coin Rain cadence breaks when he returns to Coin Toss + Golden Rampage rotation.
Fear Phase 1 โ Leer Stacking + Shadow Strike (200 โ 100 HP)
Fear opens with Leer (0 damage debuff, -20% defense per stack) and Shadow Strike (14 damage, parryable). The Leer debuff is the real boss โ without a Purifying Light or Heal Plus clear, you take -60% defense into Phase 2. Reddit r/blocktales reading: a 3-stack Leer into a Phase 2 Shadow Strike hits for 35 damage, which is lethal for sub-50 HP players. Cast Purifying Light on the turn after the 2nd Leer application to strip stacks before Phase 2 triggers.
Fear Phase 2 โ Clone Split (100 โ 0 HP)
Below 50% HP, Fear uses Clone Split โ summons 2 shadow clones with 40 HP each. The clones RESURRECT Fear to full HP if not killed in 2 turns. This is the highest-priority AoE window in the entire Chapter 3. AoE cards (Inferno, Blizzard) one-shot the clones. Single-target damage is a trap โ focus-firing the clones with Power Stab takes 3 turns, by which point they resurrect Fear. Bring at least one AoE card or accept the reset.
The Chapter 3 Progression โ Where Fear & Greed Hand Off to Hatred
Defeating both Fear and Greed completes the Chapter 3 mid-section and unlocks the Hatredfinal boss. The Chapter 3 progression goes: Turkey (basement mini-boss) โ Slasher โ Greed โ Fear โ Hatred (final). The Demo 5 Story Rewrite removed Solitude as a separate encounter and folded its mechanics into the Hatred finale, so the Fear & Greed page is the canonical Chapter 3 Dream World guide.
Fight order: Greed โ Fear โ Hatred. The Reddit r/blocktales consensus is that fighting Greed first lets you spend your coin-clear cards before Fear's debuff management, and the Leer debuff stacks you accumulate on Fear are reset by the Hatred arena transition. See the Hatred boss guide for the Chapter 3 finale.
